Thomas Sutherland blearily rubbed the sleep from his eyes as he headed up towards the family house. It hadn’t been a long journey back from Gloucester to home but he’d received a summon from his father first thing and had little time to rest. He heard the carriage depart as he walked up the driveway towards Ironhall, the home of Sir Michael Sutherland, darling of the New Industrial society and Thomas’ father. Highwind Chronicles C2P2 WIPThe first boarder launched himself across the gap between the two ships with a crude rocket strapped to his back. Several others followed suit, some failed to reach the Highwind and others were swatted out of the air by small arms fire. Thomas Sutherland hit one in the chest, causing the man to land on the deck as the rocket cut and fall to the ground. He swung around again, this time shooting a man who used a pulley device to move along the chain that was anchored in the airships prow, other simply swinging across on rope. Highwind Chronicles C2P1With what seemed like every ounce of his being Thomas Sutherland opened his eyes, he was one of three members of the crew of the Highwind who genuinely had what could be called a proper bed, the other two being Mr and Mrs Rickman, to whom he had given the largest cabin. Not that any of them were more than a few metres square. His head was a little fuzzy and his forehead felt like it had been lined with wool, the effects of last night still lingering. Following their hasty departure from Plymouth they had rendezvoused with a sea ship by the name of the Green Goddess and conducted a trade of goods and currency with the ships owner, a tall broadHighwind Chronicles C2P1
